Shadow T1 is a multi-homed, dual T1 service, for which Systek provides two T1 connections to the Internet for the customer. The Shadow T1 connection serves as an emergency backup for the primary T1 connection. The recommended Shadow T1 configuration terminates the Shadow T1 at an Internet hub that is distinct from the hub where the customer has their primary T1 connection.

All traffic is normally sent via the primary connection; if the primary connection fails, the Shadow T1 will carry all traffic until the primary connection is restored. The Shadow T1's automatic re-routing capability ensures the integrity of the customer's data. The Shadow T1 will be allowed to carry up to a maximum of 16 Kbps on a 95% sustained usage basis, as part of the Shadow T1 monthly rate. Above this threshold, the Shadow T1 will be priced at normal Flexible T1 rates.

The customer must have their primary circuit with Systek, and the Shadow T1 must be provisioned the same as the primary connection. The customer maintains a single router on their premises connected to two DSU/CSUs.
